How was the Salim-Javed pair formed?
Salim Khan came to Mumbai around 1955. Then he did some films as an actor but they flopped. After this he thought of working as a writer but he was unable to write dialogues. Javed Akhtar could write dialogues but he had some problems in writing as a screenwriter.
In the documentary ‘Angry Young Man’, Javed Akhtar had told that one day he was at Marine Drive and was thinking about what to do to survive in the industry. At the same time, Salim Khan was also sitting there and they discussed a story. Both of them sold that story for 5 thousand rupees and the name of that film was ‘Do Bhai’ which was a hit. After this, they started working together and became the most popular writers of the industry.

The pair of Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan became famous as Salim-Javed. They wrote superhit films like ‘Andaz’, ‘Adhikaar’, ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’, ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’, ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Majboor’, ‘Haath Ki Safai’, ‘Sholay’, ‘Don’, ‘Trishul’, ‘Deewar’, ‘Aakhri Daav’. Most of Salim Javed’s films were a hit at the box office and their pair used to be the hyped writer’s pair of that era.
